Cross to Bear s Knowle West Boy, his first album in five years, kicks off with Puppy Toy, a 21st-century blues featuring vocalist Alex Mills and a chorus that blasts like a radio hit. A couple of tracks, Bacative and Baligaga showcase Rodigan Morgan toasting over Dancehall-based grooves, while Council Estate is a slice of fractured punk. Knowle West Boy is named for the Council Estates housing project neighborhood Tricky grew up in. This set is not shrouded in mystery: it's autobiographical. It's the first album of well-crafted songs he's come up with since Maxinquaye but doesn't sound a thing like it. As has been his wont since early on, Tricky also employs a host of other vocalists here for the sake of expressing more complex emotions, and also toward spinning a more complete - if sometimes complex - narrative. Knowle West Boy is the seventh studio album by musician and producer Tricky, released by Domino Records on 7 July 2008 in Europe, and 9 September 2008 in North America. All music is composed by Tricky and Bernard Butler except where noted. Council Estate appeared in Chuck. Coalition appeared in the PS2 and Wii release of Need for Speed: Undercover. Baligaga appeared in Midnight Club: Los Angeles. Past Mistake appeared in the UK TV series Ideal and the US TV series The Following.
