Album

The Best of The Velvet Underground: Words and Music of Lou Reed is a compilation album by The Velvet Underground. It was released in October 1989 by Verve Records. The Best of The Velvet Underground concludes the mid-1980s re-issue series by Verve Records of their Velvet Underground material the first three albums plus VU and Another View. The record tried to capitalise on the new public awareness of Lou Reed, who had issued his critically acclaimed comeback album New York earlier that year. This best-of collection takes the most direct route, leaning heavily on popular selections from the band's 1967 debut, like I'll Be Your Mirror and Femme Fatale, both sung by Nico. The noisier side of the band is represented more sparingly, with only the title track from the more experimental second album, White LightWhite Heat, and the sprawling Heroin drifting into the challenging side of the Velvets' forced matchmaking with pop and chaos. The Velvet Underground was a pioneering experimental rock band from New York City first active from 1965 to 1973. Its best-known lineup consisted of vocalistguitarist Lou Reed, bassistviolist John Cale, guitarist Sterling Morrison and drummer Maureen Tucker. The band also collaborated with Nico for their debut album in 1967, under the supervision of producer and pop artist Andy Warhol. Some see The Velvet Underground as being a bridge between the pacifist themes of the late 60s and the sheer chaos and indifference of the mid-70s punk movement. Лента с персональными рекомендациями и музыкальными новинками, радио, подборки на любой вкус, удобное управление своей коллекцией. The Velvet Underground are alive and well which in itself may surprise some people and ever-changing. How do you define a group like this, who moved from Heroin to Jesus in two short-years. Yes, it can, and this is perhaps the most important lesson the Velvet Underground: the power of the human soul to transcend its darker levels. The songs on this album are about equally divided between the subjects of love and freedom. So many of them are about love, in fact, that one wonders if Lou Reed, the malevolent Burroughsian Death Dwarf who had previously never written a complimentary song about anybody, has not himself fallen in love. Velvet Underground Best Of Words & Music Of Lou Reed. Track Listings. Disc: 1. My impression of it may be influenced by its being my first exposure to The Velvet Underground, but I still enjoy it and think it is the best best of I've heard for listenability, and there is not one song that I feel the need to skip over for not being in the mood. It's true it is not representative of everything they've done, but best-of's are often more about the pop-like classics than the artistic scope of a band. After the mild success of White LightWhite Heat, the band was promoted to MGM proper and signed a two-album contract with the label. TVU had a far mellower folk-rock sound than their previous albums, a direct result of Lou Reeds desire to make the band sound more commercially-friendly. Unfortunately, this effort failed. While White Light made it to 199 on the Billboard Top 200, TVU failed to chart at all. Sales were so disappointing, in fact, that the label dropped the band completely later that year.
