Can anyone post what is the true first press version?
Truthcliff
One way I use is to find the promo (or promos), and the first retail version will generally have the same text layout, although of course, on different label blank stock. It's not that unusual for a "first" pressing to be execute at two or more plants simultaneously, so sometimes there is more than one first -- something that doesn't occur in nature.Edit: in this case, the promo has a different mix and track list, so my method doesn't work.

Getz / Gilberto America's top jazz tenor joins Brazil's great young singer in the most exciting album of the year . Totaly Agree with that statement .The music that feels like a breath of fresh air , gentle , honest unpretentiousness washed away all the worried in life .Remarkable !
Agamaginn
I am not sure if is just my pressing but it sounds a bit over amplified. As if the input level was too high during recording. Even sounding distorted during louder passages.
Gaxaisvem
My UK mono is exactly the same, but I also think it is due to groove wear. This was probably played hundreds of times in the 60s. And don't forget how turntables on the 60s were with those heavy trackers. Pretty sure that's the issue on most copies with distorted sound.
Fearlesssinger
My copy has a bit of that too...I just thought it was due to some previous groove wear or something? Brilliant album though :)

This is thee classic jazz album that brought the world to bossa nova. "The Girl From Ipanema" was an out right success due to the cool soft playing of the Tenor Saxophone from Stan Getz and the beautiful strings of João Gilberto. I've seen plenty reviews about this album and most critics can not stand Astrud's singing and wish it were left out. Granted she doesn't have the best female voice in jazz but she did add an innocent-girl feel to it. The other songs are all great and "Desafinado" became the other hit from this album and even Charlie Byrd went on to cover this track. It's simple, if your new to bossa nova jazz, buy this first. There is a story behind the earnings that the artists received from this albums success. Stan went on to buy the sister of George Gershwin's 23-room mansion, while João Gilberto earned just $23,00 and Astrud and mere $125.
Sharpbrew
You heard wrong. Getz was actually revered among his peers. One the great sax players in jazz history.
Thordira
This is definitely one of the Bossa Nova movements classic records, but it is not the album that introduced that style to the US. That distinction goes to an album that predates this record by two years. That album.... drum roll.... is “Jazz Samba”, which features Stan Getz, Charlie Byrd, and Antonio Carlos Jobim. It can easily be said that Jobim is the most important musician in the Latin Jazz.
Delan
Idk...Jobim wrote most of the songs on this album. From that fact he would and should have had most claims to royalties, but he is not even mentioned. There were all kind of shady unequal or lack of payouts, but it was most standard, even by law, that songwriter credited gets royalties. I love Astrud!
Uleran
I love Astrud's singing. The album is already so damn cool and smooth, but she makes it downright sexy. Such swagger and style.
Maman
Could this be part of the reason that Stna Getz has a terrible reputation amongst his peers? (Or so I hear?)
