Let England Shake. PJ Harvey. UMG, WMG от лица компании Universal-Island Records Ltd. UMPI, CMRRA, PEDL, Kobalt Music Publishing, EMI Music Publishing и другие авторские общества 6. Let England Shake is the eighth studio album by English singer-songwriter and musician PJ Harvey, released on 14 February 2011 by Island Records. Production began around the time of White Chalk's release in 2007, though it is a departure from the piano-driven introspection of that album. Let England Shake was written over a 2 12-year period, and recorded in five weeks at a church in Dorset during April and May 2010. Let England Shake is the eighth studio album by PJ Harvey. It was released on 14 February 2011 in the UK, and on 15 February 2011 in the US. Work on it began around the time of White Chalk's release in 2007, though it is a departure from the piano-driven introspective collection of that album. It was written between late 2007 and 2008, and recorded over a five-week period. PJ Harveys new album was recorded in a 19th Century church in Dorset, on a cliff-top overlooking the sea. It was created with a cast of musicians including such long-standing allies as Flood, John Parish, and Mick Harvey. It is the eighth PJ Harvey album, following 2007s acclaimed White Chalk, and the HarveyParish collaboration A Woman A Man Walked By. Such are the bare facts. Let England Shake evokes the troubled spirit of 2010, but it also casts its mind back to times and places from our long collective memory. In keeping with such imaginative intentions, its music has a rare breadth and emotional power. PJ Harvey followed her ghostly collection of ballads, White Chalk, with Let England Shake, an album strikingly different from what came before it except in its Englishness. White Chalk's haunted piano ballads seemed to emanate from an isolated manse on a moor, but here Harvey chronicles her relationship with her homeland through songs revolving around war. Throughout the album, she subverts the concept of the anthem - a love song to one's country - exploring the forces that shape nations and people. It says something that Let England Shake, the album she chose to announce on the Andrew Marr Show last April an opaque exploration of Englishness delivered in a high, keening voice, that contains not one, not two, but three harrowing songs that explicitly reference the 1915 Gallipoli campaign and a further handful that seem more generally informed by the carnage of the first. In fact, listeners used to Harvey in full-on, bug-eyed Dorset avenger mode might be slightly taken aback by Let England Shake. On Let England Shake, Harvey is not often upfront or forceful her lyrics, though, are as disturbing as ever. Here, she paints vivid portraits of war, and her sharp focus on the up-close, hand-to-hand devastation of World War I- depicting soldiers falling like lumps of meat- provides a fitting setting for today's battlegrounds. If it doesn't resonate as much in America as it does in Europe- and it doesn't- that's more our fortune than our shame. The Great War remains a rich and resonant subject for art because it briefly caused the world to step back, aghast and afraid to look at what it had done. About Let England Shake. PJ Harvey regales her listeners with yet another collection of haunting anthems on this. The title track kicks off the album with Harvey declaring Let England shakeAbout Let England Shake. PJ Harvey regales her listeners with yet another collection of haunting anthems on this dual-themed mini-masterwork. The album relates the horrors of war and the inevitable scars the fighting leaves on a countrys psyche, while simultaneously detailing the songstress' lovehate relationship with her UK motherland. The title track kicks off the album with Harvey declaring Let England shakeI fear our blood wont rise again , yet she quickly reverses course on songs The Last Living Rose and England , where her songwriting recalls The Kinks Are the Village Gree. Her latest album, Let England Shake, is a lush, well-constructed, and passionate open letter to her home country of England-a rare outward focus rather than her usual inward, personal, and biting focus. My exposure to Harvey is somewhat limited to her Mercury Prize-winning Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea-which is a bluesy, more straightforward affair that many called her greatest album when it came out in 2000-and a few tracks from 2007s White Chalk. Harvey made sure to pick the perfect place to record this fantastic English album. She traveled to an old church in the countryside of England
