Operation: Doomsday has been ranked as one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. Operation: Doomsday is the debut solo album by MF DOOM. The album marked DOOMs return to the hip hop scene after . s demise. It was released in January 1999 by Fondle Em Records and reissued by Sub Verse Records in 2001 with a slightly altered track listing, by Metal Face Records in 2008, and by Stones Throw Records in 2011. Operation: Doomsday. MF Doom. Simultaneously hailed as an underground classic and cast aside as poorly produced backpack rap, Operation: Doomsday inaugurated the reign of MF Doom in underground rap from the early to mid-2000s. The pretext for the album is very similar to that of Marvel Comics supervillain Dr. Doom after MF Doom, then known as Zevlove X, had been devastated by the death of his brother and . accomplice, DJ Sub-Roc, in the early '90s, Elektra dropped his group and stopped the release of its second album, Black Bastards, due to its. political message and, more specifically, its cover art. Genre: Hip Hop. This was a good introduction to MF DOOM's solo material While I'm more of a Madvillainy type of guy this album has some excellent lyrics and production. The production on this album fits Doom's rapping style extremely well and the super-villain theme is a great. read more. Hello, so as you've seen below this pressing has surface noise issues. My copy is a hype sticker on the left. There is a pattern of surface noise that rises and disappears. this pressing is not the best... you can hear the music just fine but you WILL static and crackling during it.Quite annoying. A disappointing presssing. If you can, cop the original.
Rude
I made a different submission for the sound quality pressing but people didn't believe me & my submission was merged. There is a sound quality issue with the LPs that have the hype sticker on the right. Hype sticker on the left sounds fine.
Dilkree
Have to agree with all these comments, just picked this up, crazy amount of surface noise, pains me to say but I'd avoid this at all costs.

Does anyone one have a different colored version than the ones mentioned on this site? The one I received has four different colors for both discs. Sides 0-1 are split between a plum and pink type colors and sides 2-3 are red and purple. The latter is reminiscent of Magneto's armor from the '90s X-Men cartoon. I haven't spun them yet so I'm unsure how the sound quality is. (there is also a possibility I blew my speakers a while back.)

Sounds like you have this version: http://www.discogs.com/MF-Doom-Operation-Doomsday/release/5450134

Yes I bought this yesterday and the vinyl has the same color pattern you described. Haven't been able to find out any information about it though...
Cemav
My research has found there were two pressings on the "gun metal" grey vinyl-- the first one is OK, relatively quiet for colored vinyl, the second pressing was bad, you can actually see it looking at the vinyl: looks dull instead of shiny. It would also appear the first pressing had the sticker on the left, the second had the sticker on the right (though I can't confirm they were all like this.)

There is a lot of surface noise on my record too. Pretty annoying..
Neol
I agree 100% with beatkomornik. Classic album, but surface noise is as loud if not louder than the music.
Haralem
the album is great (musically). however, the pressing and the remaster is not the best imho. my records are noisy as hell, the lyrics are often louder then expected and the whole thing is off-centered. too bad, because otherwise this is an out of this world album
IGOT
Well , my pressing had the same problem with the centerhole being a little to narrow but the sound is perfect , no or very few surface noises.
