E2-E4, 1984 Recorded , Racket Records. If you enjoy this album please, support the artist. Thank you. Story behind the album by Manuel Göttsching the guitarist of Ashra Tempel in one session by using only a mixer, a sequenzer. Klaus Schulze - , released in 1984, is a solo recording by German musician and Ash Ra Tempel founder Manuel Göttsching. The album consists of one minimalistic, hour-long electronic track that Göttsching recorded in one take using a sequencer, with improvised keyboards, metallic percussion, and guitar playing. The album is named after the most popular opening chess move 1. e2-e4 which is expressed in long algebraic notation. A noteworthy pun on E2-E4 exists-when expressed in standard scientific pitch notation. Manuel Göttsching - E2 E4. öttsManuel Göttsching - E2 E4. öttsE2-E4master2786. Love this the most essential dance album of the '80's. Posted 3 months ago3 months ago. tribal house master at 19:57: Great tune Posted 4 months ago4 months ago. Bernadette Coll Amengual at 3:46 . E2-E4, one of the few records Göttsching released under his own name, has earned its place as one of the most important, influential electronic records ever released. It's also the earliest album to set the tone for electronic dance music simply put, it just sounds like the mainstream house produced during the next two decades. Manuel Göttsching tells Chris May how he did it. Manuel Göttsching is probably best known for E2-E4, the groundbreaking solo album he recorded in under an hour at his Berlin studio in 1981. Released in 1984 and first championed overseas by the influential New York club DJ Larry Levan, E2-E4 was omnipresent on dancefloors during the late 1980s, when it was given a second life by remixers Sueño Latino. It can credibly claim to be the first electronic dance music album. But Göttschings innovatory credentials go back further than E2-E4. Both as a founding member of the Krautrock group Ash Ra Tempel and through his later solo work, Manuel Göttsching was among the true innovators of the musical aesthetic later dubbed electronica, with his 1984 release E2-E4 remaining a seminal building block in the subsequent development of styles ranging from techno to house to contemporary ambient music. Manuel Göttsching. E2-E4. After Ash Ra Tempel dissolved in the mid-70s, the krautrock bands leader Manuel Göttsching explored ambiance and minimalism. Improvised at home in an hour, E2-E4 became an electronic music landmark. Some classic albums have origin stories that threaten to eclipse the music itself. My Bloody Valentine almost bankrupted Creation over Loveless. Bruce Springsteens Nebraska was just a cassette demo that he carried around in his pocket before deciding to release it. Brian Wilsons inability to finish SMiLE caused him a mental breakdown. Manuel Goettsching - E2-E4. Story behind the cult ambient album, the predecessor of Techno & House music. George Palladev. Aug 28, 2017 6 min read. Goettsching quickly came to compositional minimalism: when a whole well-knit composition was built around one small musical idea or one short chord. He was impressed by the simple technique of American Terry Riley, who put the sounds of an electronic organ into an echo machine on his album Persian Surgery Devishes. Manuel did a similar thing when he released his first solo album Inventions for Electric Guitar in 1975. Complétez votre collection Manuel Göttsching. Manuel Göttsching E2-E4. Genre: Electronic. It doesn't get more classic than this. every serious lover of electronic music of any kind should own this.

This is a very fine album, to listen to if you are trying to concentrate on something that is tricky, like a hard sudoko puzzle or scraping bits of dog dirt out of the complex rubber grips of your shoes with a toothpick. Also I might add, if you are an owner of the vinyl version, the LP cover acts as an excellent, makeshift chess board when you are in a desperate hurry to play chess and cannot find yours because someone has not put it back where it is meant to be, that is, next to the box with the chess pieces inside it.
Owomed
Mine got a little kinky towards the end of Side A. Might just be my old turntable. Other than that, superb pressing. I've never listened to the album prior to buying. Absolutely captivating.
Ballagar
I am just surprised that A side lets the guitar start and just finish. Why they didn’t cut A side before the guitar ? Are all the vinyl version cut this way ?
Mr.Death
Flat and quiet copy. Plays fine from the beginning till the end of the two long sides. Very happy !
Kashicage
My first copy sounded great, very quiet, except in the last 5 minutes of each side. There were very light scuffs, ones that I wouldn't guess to be audible and almost difficult to see but were very pronounced in listening. The replacement copy I received sounded great throughout, with no scuffs. I would take a guess that due to the tightness of the grooves (to fit 25+ minutes on each side) makes the audio very susceptible to small imperfections in the material. If you buy it new, make sure the vendor has a return policy. This aside, the mastering is really excellent considering how much information is crammed in there. The pressing, barring defects, is very quiet (little to no noise). The music itself is thoroughly noted elsewhere, accurately so. Still sounds fresh and original 30+ years on.

This is brilliant. End of story. Thank you. Night Night
Trash
My all-time favorite album but the pressing is pretty underwhelming. It may just be my copy. The packaging is beautiful, but it's really quiet with noticeable surface noise throughout.
Opimath
My copy came with a tiny sticker on the back plastic saying "made in France" but otherwise seems to be identical to this. Embossed sleeve. same liner notes. Anyone else got that as well?
melody of you
Woo!! Got this copy last September and have listened so many times. The sound quality is astonishing, the liner notes were fun to read and gave some nice insight on how Manuel created this masterpiece and why he released it. What to say about the album, nothing like this was heard of at the time this was recorded. Other than maybe previous Ashra recordings hinting towards this sound. This album to me is a complete relaxation piece. If I start playing it, I'm going to sit there for an hour and think of absolutely nothing but the music. I've heard people say "it never changes. It's so boring blah blah" That's why you sit and LISTEN. When you exclude all other thoughts but the music, this album will really present itself to the fullest to you. And it's an amazing experience. Such a memorable album, I truly love it.

Well, this album officially blew my mind last night.I think I listened to it 4 times straight through. The sound quality is out of this world, and the music itself is iconic, considering that music of this nature simply didn't exist at the time. One could take it for granted these days, considering that electronic music has officially been in the mainstream for quite some time now, but techno simply didn't exist up until this album. I'm sure you could read loads of arguments, stating that the first examples of techno had to originate in Detroit, but after listening to this, it's quite obvious to me that it started in Berlin :) Wow, please do yourself a favor and get this as soon as possible, so your mind can get blown as well. 10 out of 5!
The Rollers of Vildar
As per previous comments, a legendary piece of music, a great pressing and a superb package all round.

I received my copy today, released on the artist's own label ("MG ART"). Mine was on 180 gr. vinyl and did not come with a DL code. This is a high quality release and I would advise anyone to pick this up over earlier, and more expensive, pressings.
Jeb
Do you get a DL code with this release? Just seen this on pitchfork. I have never heard of it before but I love electronic music.
Burisi
As the previous represses this has no DL code! If you are born in the late 70's - early 80's you must know this track as "Sueno Latino - Sueno Latino"...
Danial
No DownLoad code included but a great reissue. Get it!
Iesha
received my copy today and doesn't seem to be a 180 gr. vinylanyone?
Dellevar
I just checked the weight. My vinyl is 179 gr. :-) But it has a lot of fingerprints and few light hairlines.
Olma
Sound quality is soooooo good. Everything better than I could have hoped for. Have been waiting many years for this reissue!
Iraraeal
Good to hear, I'm selling my 1995 French pressing before getting this copy in the mail.
