Recorded at home on a 4-track, except track 5 (recorded at Noise, NY) and track 10 (recorded at BC Studio, NY).
Drums recorded at various times and places, thanks to Frank Wuyts, Fred Maher, Paul Sears and especially Hans Bruniusson, who let me make a tape of 15-second generic drum styles without having any idea what I would do with them.
Track 5 originally appeared on Various - The 20th Anniversary Of The Summer Of Love 1987-1967, a Shimmy Disc compilation.
Track 10 is from the Curlew LP North America, released by the Moers label in 1984. All sounds made by saxophone or microphone.
Special thanks to Tina, Asha, Kramer, George, Eugene Nowacki, Burkhard Hennen, Tom Cora, Roger and Annie.

Cheap at Half the Price is a 1983 solo album by English guitarist, composer and improviser Fred Frith. It was Frith's fifth solo album, and was originally released in the United States on LP record on The Residents' Ralph record label. It was the third of three solo albums Frith made for the label. Cheap at Half the Price was recorded by Frith at his home in New York City on a 4-track machine. He played all the instruments himself, with the exception of bass guitar on two tracks, and drums, for which. Best known for his guitar work, multi-instrumentalist, composer & improvisor Fred Frith was a founding member of the English avant-rock group Henry Cow, as well as Art Bears, Massacre, & Skeleton Crew. He has collaborated w musicians incl Robert Wyatt, the Residents, John Zorn, Brian Eno, Mike Patton. Album 1982 13 Songs. Try it at Half the Price is the fifth album released by former Henry Cow member Fred Frith. Cheap was recorded entirely in Friths home on a 4-track tape machine. Frith played all the instruments on this record himself, save for a bass guitar on two songs and the drum tracks, which were sampled from previous sessions of his. Its the first record on which Frith sang in any capacity. Cheap was released in 1983 on the Residents' Ralph Records. Upon release, it was immediately met by controversy from Friths musical circle, due to its more simple pop-oriented structure and its departure from Friths usual, more avant-garde style. Fred Frith takes a stab at low-tech pop music, and he is quite successful. I say low tech because it was largely recorded at home, and the synthesizer of choice is the Casio 101. Frith does amazing things with it, his guitar, his guests including Bill Laswell, Tina Curran & George Cartwright, his voice, his violin, and his homemade instruments. With the possible exception of Step Across the Border which contains selections from this record, there is no other Fred Frith album like it. The CD bonus track True Love is one of the best things on the record, but it&. Fred Frith. Cheap At Half the Price, 2004. Some Clouds Don't, 03:15. Cap the Knife, 02:50. Drums recorded at various times and places, thanks to Frank Wuyts, Fred Maher, Paul Sears and especially Hans Bruniusson, who let me make a tape of 15-second generic drum styles without having any idea what I would do with them. Special thanks to Tina, Asha, Kramer, George, Eugene Nowacki, Burkhard Hennen, Tom Cora, Roger and Annie. Frith's last album for Ralph Records stepped back from the progressions of Speechless to a concoction of pop-like ditties and instrumentals recorded at home on a four track. And for the first time, Frith sings, in a strange high-pitched tone. A little more production and sound manipulation and this could almost be a Residents album, circa 1978
